Vinyl Repair Training

Have you ever thought about becoming your own boss? Have you ever felt the urge to spread your wings and make a name for yourself in this world?
I have, and I did something about it. Starting my own business was the scariest but best decision I ever made. I bet I started out like a lot of you. I worked a regular 9-5 job in the mental health industry. That sounds more prestigious than it actually was. In reality what I was doing was being a caretaker for developmentally disabled adults. While rewarding in it's own way, I could see all around me my 40-50 year old co-workers making just above minimum wage and showing up for work every day, not because they had a passion for what they did, but because like a lot of things in life, this job had become a habit.
Habits make us who we are, for better or for worse. -
One day while I was driving to work I had an overwhelming sensation that although I had no idea what I was going to do, I knew I was going to break the habit I had developed over the years of thinking too small, of limiting myself. I quit my job that day. I was a young guy with a family to support and I was going to college at night with no financial aid but I was determined to start thinking big!
It’s funny how opportunity comes knocking when you are ready to open the door. Within a couple of days I received a call from my Dad who was working as a financial planner at the time. He was counselling a guy named Scott McKernan, who was the founder of Number 1 Vinyl and Leather Repair. Scott had grown the company to a point where he needed help, and my Dad, realizing the opportunity, offered me up as a potential trainee.
After speaking with Scott about the amazing potential, I said,“This is what I am supposed to be doing.” Scott was a pioneer in the field and had developed techniques that no other vinyl repair guys were using. He grew his company to the point of having ten guys in the field, many of which I trained. Scott and I worked together for over five years. He was an amazing teacher and mentor but the time came when I was ready to branch out and find my own way and with Scott’s blessings I packed my things and went out to San Diego, Ca.
Within a couple of months I received another amazing phone call. Steve Insko, the founder of Nu Life Vinyl and Leather Repair, called me out of the blue and asked me if I was interested in buying his company. He was getting ready to retire and really wanted someone to take care of his customers like he had done for the last twenty years. This was a perfect example of the popular poster quote, “Opportunity favors the prepared.” I jumped at the offer and within three months my business had doubled.
I realized that I couldn’t handle all of the work on my own so I called up my step-brother Tim Phillips, who had been working with Scott for last three years and offered him a chance to be a partner in Number 1 Vinyl Repair. He responded, “Absolutely, let’s do this!” Tim is an awesome guy as well as a Master Technician. He has trained many trainees and is an absolute perfectionist. And for the past fifteen years Tim and I have grown the company by offering the absolute best service and highest quality repairs in our industry.

This is the exciting part!!
We have made the decision to start offering vinyl and leather repair training! This isn’t for everyone. If you are color blind or the kind of guy who’s happy with “just ok” this isn’t the profession for you. However; if you are looking for a career where you control your own destiny and earnings are virtually unlimited, then look no further!!
We have developed a hands on training course that covers every subject from vinyl repair to plastic repair to leather repair and reconditioning. You will learn from the experts as you go with us in the field doing real world repairs for real customers. None of this “wrong look” BS of sitting down with ten other people in a classroom, learning theory! We will use our forty years of combined experience to dramatically decrease the learning curve and get you earning money right away. We have field tested every repair product and dye system out there and only use the best, so you can rest assured your customer will have a strong, long lasting repair.

This is also an awesome add-on to your current business!!
Unlike other add-ons such as: paintless dent repair, detailing, scratch repair and rim repair, vinyl repair is something that can be taught fairly quickly. With some practice at home you can literally start offering this service to your existing customers within days, not weeks or months. And offering this service can dramatically increase your profits! Materials typically cost about 5% and an average repair will run from $95 for a basic repair to up to $400 for reconditioning your customer’s seats.

Training Packages and Price
We are offering two training packages depending on the time you have to commit to learning vinyl and leather repair. Our one week class will cover all the basics including color matching, leather repair, vinyl and plastic repair and velour repair. We will teach you how to market your newly acquired skill and the quickest ways to find and retain customers. We will show you how much you should bill per job as well as which repairs to do and which ones to walk away from. You will do hands on repairs as we walk you through the process. We will get you well on the way to your new career or add-on business.
The price for one week of one on one training with us is $2500. The other option is the two week training course in which we will go into much further detail and get into some of the more difficult repairs.
